We’re proud to share that Joe Heimerl, EMI’s Director of Operations, has been selected for the 2026-2027 SIMA Accelerate Leadership Program; one of the industry’s most respected leadership development programs for emerging operational leaders in commercial snow and ice management.
Hosted by the Snow & Ice Management Association (SIMA) and sponsored by BOSS Snowplow, the Accelerate Program selects just 12 professionals from across the United States and Canada through a competitive application process. Over the course of the year-long program, participants will engage in executive leadership development, strategic operations training, peer collaboration, and immersive learning experiences designed to shape the next generation of industry leaders.
For EMI, this recognition represents more than an individual achievement. It reflects the operational philosophy that drives every snow and ice management service we deliver.
Operational Excellence Is What Keeps Facilities Running
At EMI, we’ve built our business around a core principle: service matters.
Successful winter response isn’t determined solely by equipment or manpower. It depends on planning, communication, resource deployment, and real-time decision-making before the first snowflake falls. Every storm requires careful coordination to ensure teams, equipment, and materials are positioned where they’re needed most, minimizing disruption while maintaining safe access to critical facilities.
As Director of Operations, Joe leads many of these efforts, helping ensure that every response reflects the preparation, consistency and accountability our clients expect.
His selection into the SIMA Accelerate Program reinforces the level of operational leadership behind EMI’s zero-downtime approach.
Investing in Leadership to Better Serve Our Clients
The commercial landscape industry continues to evolve, with clients expecting greater reliability, transparency, and operational sophistication from their service partners.
Programs like SIMA Accelerate help industry leaders strengthen the skills needed to meet those expectations; from strategic planning and organizational leadership to operational excellence and continuous improvement.
By investing in professional development, EMI continues to strengthen the systems and leadership that support our clients long after the snow season begins.
“I feel extremely energized & excited to be joining this year’s SIMA Acceleration program. This opportunity would not have been a reality without the support of EMI. The whole organization continues to show that they believe growing people is the best way to grow a business. My sincere thanks to Bob & the rest of the EMI team.” – Joe Heimerl
Building the Future of Zero-Downtime Grounds Management
EMI has remained independently owned and operated since 1983 by continuously investing in people, processes, and long-term relationships.
Joe’s participation in the SIMA Accelerate Leadership Program is another example of that commitment. As he collaborates with industry leaders from across North America over the coming year, Joe will both contribute EMI’s expertise and gain new perspectives from fellow participants. By sharing the operational strategies that have helped EMI deliver zero-downtime performance while bringing back fresh insights and best practices, he’ll help strengthen not only our organization, but the industry as a whole.
Delivering zero downtime isn’t just about responding to winter weather; it’s about building the leadership, discipline and operational excellence that make reliable performance possible every day.
