Meet Rachel: emi’s Jill of All Trades

Today, we are shining a light on another one of our amazing team members, Rachel. If you haven’t seen her around, you’ve definitely heard of her! Not only has Rachel been with emi for five years and counting, but she is also the daughter of our fearless Horticulture Team Leader, Donna Danenhower. Although Rachel doesn’t necessarily consider herself to have a green thumb, she credits her mom for showing her the emi way.

Rachel had a unique beginning at emi – during her senior year of high school, she got to shadow Cindy, our CFO, for a school project. Then, she worked on and off at emi for several years and slowly transformed her high school project into a full-time career. Man, aren’t we lucky?!

Although her official title is Operations Administration, Rachel is ready to assist her team wherever they need her. Her day-to-day consists of managing customer billing, editing contracts, and processing payroll. She takes care of taxes, bill payments, and prepping the numbers for us during the snow season.

She also fills her day by attending department meetings to stay up-to-date on scheduling and operations. She even helps out the team by purchasing plant materials and occasionally lends her green thumb by curating a design or two for clients. To say she has a finger in every pie is an understatement!

When Rachels is not busy crunching numbers, you can find her cozying up with a good book hand-picked from her collection. Rachel doesn’t just go on adventures in her books though, she’s also passionate about traveling. That is as long as she’s got a good travel partner. She’s been to nearly every state on the East Coast and has goals to visit more.

Rachel is always looking for ways to grow her career at emi. She’s currently getting her accounting certificate and hopes to use her new skills in the finance department when she graduates in the Spring of 2024. Some of us may cringe at the sight of numbers, but Rachel finds them as another puzzle to solve. Plus, she loves paperwork!

Rachel has grown with us over the years and credits the emi squad to not only her career growth but personal growth as well. She shares, “My favorite thing about emi is the people. The supportive work environment has helped me get out of my shell over the years.”

Thank you for all you do Rachel! We’re lucky to have you on our team.
